Human may suffer from so many diseases and health problems in their life time. One infection that is caused by virus and affects on the skin is Molluscum Contagiosum. It is also called water warts which are contagious and spreads over person to person by touching the infected area.
The DNA poxvirus is specific to humans so that it rarely spreads without touching the infected surface. Having categorized in to four types, it may attack in every age group of people, especially in children. The growths appear in single or groups on the skin of any body part.
Badly affects on the human
All the body parts including body, arm, groin and legs appear with small lesions which are dome shaped. They range from 2 to 5 millimeters in diameter. These growths are small in size at first and gradually increase unless proper treatment is not taken. They appear in pink or white color and have a dimple in the center of each lesion. Molluscum is painless unless the bumps get infected. Sometimes they itch which can cause scratching and spread the infection. Additional complications occur with bacterial affect around the affected surface. The bumps resolve within 18-20 months and only rarely leave scars on the skin. People with weak immunity system have the risk of attacked by this problem. People who live in crowded locations or in warm places are also having the chances for this.
Diagnosis and treatment
Molluscum Contagiosum is diagnosed clinically by appearance and a biopsy is rarely needed. Cantharidin has been a common treatment for this skin problem, but is a blistering agent and causes pain in young children. Some medical solutions like Tretinoin cream can be applied on the affected area but studies show it to be without much effect. Cryosurgery can be done to freeze the lesions for further destruction of them by using liquid nitrogen, but these treatments also are often painful. Recent studies have shown that a combination of essential oils and iodine is effective to treat children with molluscum in a painless simple fashion.
